Proctology without shame
For many people, problems related to the functioning of the large intestine and rectum remain a taboo subject. Even in cases of long-term abnormalities, patients are simply embarrassed to see a doctor. This attitude is a mistake! At the WILMED clinic, all proctological examinations (the professional term for the medical field dealing with diseases of the final section of the digestive tract) are performed professionally, with respect for the intimacy and psychological comfort of each patient.
Problems related to the functioning of the final section of the digestive tract – that is, the large intestine and rectum – are often underestimated by many patients. A significant number of people in such cases do not consult a doctor due to embarrassment and fear of the examination. Meanwhile, proctology is an extremely important branch of medicine, as colorectal cancers – the most serious diseases of these body parts – are the third most common cancer worldwide in men and the second in women. They are also characterized by a very high mortality rate. Of course, not every disease related to the intestines and anus is immediately cancer. Patients are also diagnosed with hemorrhoids or condylomas.
When to see a proctologist?
You should promptly see a proctologist if you notice one or more of the following symptoms:
- anal pain,
- anal itching,
- bleeding from the anus,
- presence of lumps around the anus,
- problems with bowel movements (constipation and diarrhea),
- concerning stool appearance (presence of mucus, blood).
Men in same-sex relationships and individuals engaging in anal sex should also consult a proctologist preventively.
Types of proctological examinations
At the WILMED clinic, patients can benefit from several types of proctological examinations performed by specialized and experienced medical staff. These procedures include endoscopic examinations:
- colonoscopy – involves inserting a special flexible instrument with a miniature camera into the large intestine through the anus, allowing detailed observation of the intestinal interior (performed under general anesthesia),
- anoscopy – involves inserting an anoscope through the anus, allowing the doctor to dilate its opening, inspect the anal canal, and possibly take samples for histopathological examination,
- rectoscopy – involves inserting a rectoscope through the anus, enabling observation of the anal canal and intestinal wall over a length of 15-20 cm (material can also be collected for examination).
Treatment without taboo
People who are embarrassed to seek help for problems with their intestines or anus should remember that the role of every doctor is primarily to care for the patient’s health, not to judge their lifestyle. At the WILMED clinic, we place special emphasis on the psychological comfort of the patient and respect for their privacy. The medical procedures we offer in proctology, such as hemorrhoid removal, treatment of anal fissures, or removal of condylomas, are performed professionally and safely. Ignoring symptoms related to diseases of the anus and large intestine can pose a direct threat to health or even life.
