What does the surgical ear correction procedure involve?

The ear correction procedure involves making an incision on the front or back surface of the ear, followed by appropriate correction of the auricle. In the case of correcting protruding ears, the surgeon removes a section of skin from the back of the auricle, shapes the cartilage accordingly, and secures it in the correct position. To form the antihelical fold, stabilizing sutures are placed from behind to maintain the auricle’s shape.

After the procedure, a special dressing is applied for about a week, and the head is wrapped with an elastic bandage to ensure proper shaping of the auricles.

The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia. Sedative agents (sleep-inducing) can also be administered, especially for children.
