The prices of surgeries performed at Wilmed Hospital depend on the following factors:
- Surgeries take place in the Hospital in an operating room located within a modern operating suite, rather than a procedure room. This ensures a high level of safety for both the patient and the medical team, while simultaneously influencing the cost of the procedure.
Modern operating suites are equipped with numerous electronic devices, image integration systems, appropriate certified lighting, medical gases, laminar airflow, and certified room ventilation and air conditioning, all of which require constant technical supervision and maintenance. Furthermore, it should be kept in mind that the final fee is also affected by costs such as: the cost of sterilizing reusable equipment, the depreciation cost of medical equipment, its inspections, servicing, and finally, its replacement and the purchase of new assets.
Thus, an hour of operating suite operation is extremely expensive and it is important to remember that just because a surgeon performs a surgery in, for example, 60 minutes, it does not mean we only pay for one hour of operating suite operation. The patient needs to be prepared for the surgery, positioned, and prepped, and at the end, wounds must be closed, dressings applied, the patient transferred out, and the room cleaned and prepared for the next surgery. All of this means that we can easily add another hour of operating suite work to each procedure. - Surgeries are performed by a highly qualified and experienced medical team.
In the operating room, every surgery is supported by a medical team consisting of at least 5 people: one or two operating surgeons, an anesthesiologist, an anesthetic nurse, a scrub nurse operating alongside the surgeons, and a circulating nurse. Providing such an operating team ensures the safety of the patient and the success of the surgery, and their remuneration – which depends, among other things, on the duration of the surgery – is a component of the procedure’s price. - The price of the surgery also depends on the type of procedure, the method to be applied by the surgeon, as well as the complexity of the procedure, the extent of the lesions to be operated on, and the time required to perform the surgery.
Since every surgery is different, every cost calculation for a procedure may vary. Every patient is unique, every patient is different, and everyone has a slightly different scope, nature, and complexity of lesions or damage that need to be operated on. All these factors can only be definitively determined by the physician during the qualifying consultation and a thorough examination of the patient. - The total price of the surgery is also influenced by the length of the patient’s stay after the operation, which is also determined by the physician during the qualifying consultation. It depends on the type of surgery to be performed, the duration of the operation, and post-operative requirements. The patient remains on the hospital premises in the comfortable conditions of a recovery room under nursing and medical care. The rooms are equipped with bathrooms, and the beds feature remote-controlled adjustment and tilt options. The cost of the patient’s stay includes, among other things, the salary of the nurse providing care, the salary of the Hospital’s cleaning staff, the cost of meals provided, and other maintenance costs of patient rooms, such as laundry, waste disposal, etc.
- The total price of the procedure is also affected by the remuneration of the anesthetic team. This remuneration includes the anesthetic consultation, the anesthesia itself, care during the procedure, as well as post-operative care until the patient is fully awake. This value depends, among other things, on the duration and type of surgery.
- The total price of the procedure is also influenced by the cost of medical supplies used and medications administered to the patient during the surgery and in the post-operative period.
- Depending on the type of surgery, an additional cost may include individually selected implants, such as orthopedic or breast implants.
- And finally, the total price of the surgery also includes post-operative medical consultations. Their number depends on the type of surgery performed and the requirements of post-operative recovery, as determined by the operating surgeon.
