USG Doppler of veins and arteries Warsaw
USG Doppler – also called Doppler ultrasound – is an examination that enables quick detection of blood flow disorders in the body and diseases of veins and arteries, which may lead to pulmonary embolism, heart attack, or stroke.
In healthy individuals, the circulatory system functions without any disturbances, efficiently transporting blood throughout the body. However, sometimes the vessel lumen may be reduced due to the presence of clots or atherosclerotic plaques. This is a very dangerous condition for health and life – clots or plaques can detach from the vessel wall at any moment and completely block it, which is a direct cause of serious conditions such as heart attack or stroke.
The basis of prevention for such conditions is regular examination of vein and artery patency. A simple, safe, and minimally invasive method for prevention and diagnosis of vascular diseases is the USG Doppler examination performed at the Wilmed Medical Clinic in Warsaw.
What is USG Doppler?
USG Doppler is an examination using ultrasonography technology. A probe applied to specific body areas emits an ultrasound wave with a frequency exceeding 2.5 MHz, which reflects off the blood flowing through the body and returns to the probe. The probe is connected to an ultrasound machine that records changes in the frequency of the wave reflected from the blood and displays this on a monitor. Thanks to this, the examining doctor can assess the efficiency of the examined veins and arteries, check where blood flows faster or slower, where it possibly flows backward, and also observe the blood supply to certain organs.
How is USG Doppler performed?
USG Doppler is a quick, painless, and minimally invasive examination that does not require any special preparation from the patient (except for renal artery Doppler ultrasound, for which fasting is required). There are no contraindications to its performance.
Depending on the examined body part, the doctor asks the patient to assume an appropriate position (sitting, standing, lying). Then a special gel facilitating probe movement is applied to the skin, the probe is placed on the body, and the image on the screen is observed. Sometimes the patient is asked to take deep breaths or briefly hold their breath. USG Doppler results are available immediately.
