Surgical face and neck lifting is performed under general anesthesia and usually lasts several hours. It can be performed alone or as part of a procedure that improves the tension of deeper facial layers. During the surgery, sections of skin and subcutaneous tissue of the face are excised. Its effects last shorter than those of a deep face lift – about 2 years. Deep face lift, which leads to improved tension of the musculoaponeurotic layer (SMAS - Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System). The patient requires a longer recovery time after such a procedure, but it allows for more lasting effects, lasting up to 10 years.
How is the surgical face and neck lift procedure performed?
The surgical incision is made above the ear on the temple within the hair, then vertically down between the cheek and ear, then under the earlobe. In the case of simultaneous neck lifting, the incision continues further within the hair behind the ear downward toward the nape. These incisions cause the scars to be almost invisible. At the top, they are covered by hair; in the middle, in the natural skin fold at the border of the ear and cheek – slightly inside the ear; behind the ear, also in a natural skin fold. At the end of the operation, thin sutures and a thin drain are placed, which serves to remove blood from the wound. After the operation, compressive dressings are applied to the entire head and neck, reducing the risk of bleeding or hematoma formation in the postoperative period. Immediately after surgery, the patient remains under supervision until the next day and receives pain medication. Recovery usually lasts about 2 weeks. During this time, facial swelling and bruising are visible, which are natural parts of the healing process. Sutures are removed after 7-10 days.

Surgical face lifting allows for: removal of excess skin on the cheeks, smoothing of nasolabial folds and wrinkles, lifting of drooping corners of the mouth, improvement of facial contour and skin tension. After such a procedure, surgical intervention marks are as minimally visible as possible, and the facial appearance is as natural as possible. After a few weeks, scars are almost imperceptible. The first effects of the procedure are visible after 2-3 weeks. The final result should be expected after about 6 months.
