Endocrinology

Endokrynologia

Endocrinology is a branch of medicine dealing with endocrine glands that produce hormones. Hormones are substances secreted into the bloodstream that regulate the vital functions of the body.

An endocrinologist is a physician specializing in the treatment of diseases of hormone-secreting glands such as the pituitary gland, thyroid, parathyroids, adrenal glands, pancreas, and gonads (ovaries, testes).

With the increase in human life expectancy, the issue of supplementing hormonal deficiencies that occur with aging has emerged.

An endocrinologist also manages hormonal deficiency replacement in postmenopausal women, men with androgen deficiency syndrome, and growth hormone therapy.
