Thanks to surgical correction of the nose, it is possible to improve the aesthetics of the nose—its shape, proportions, and appearance. In cases of breathing problems due to improper nose formation, the surgery will also help to clear and improve the airway, which will certainly enhance the quality of life.

Before the nose correction procedure, the scope of the surgery is determined. Its goal is to shape the nose so that it gives the face appropriate proportions. During rhinoplasty, the nose can be enlarged, the size of the nostrils adjusted, and the nose made less pointed, slimmer, or larger. Thanks to nose plastic surgery, one can get rid of complexes resulting from dissatisfaction with this part of the face.

Before the procedure

The decision to undergo nose plastic surgery must be well thought out and consulted with a plastic surgeon. During the consultation, the scope of the surgery is defined and the best solutions are \”modeled\” to satisfy the patient. Nose correction is one of the most complex plastic surgeries. The nasal passages are very delicate, and the nose itself is small.

Looking at the structure of the nose, we see that it consists mainly of the external nose (made of cartilage, bones covered with a layer of muscles – it has a root, dorsum, tip, and wings) and the nasal cavity (located in the skull).

It should be remembered that nose plastic surgery is a surgical intervention and requires preparation. For the preoperative visit, bring your medical history, tests showing your current health status, and inform the doctor about any medications you take regularly. The doctor will examine the nose structure and check for breathing problems. Then, tests will be ordered, and the best changes will be proposed along with a discussion of the procedure.

Two weeks before the procedure, the patient should stop smoking, drinking alcohol, taking blood-thinning medications, avoid sunbathing, and maintain proper nutrition. Before the planned surgery, vaccination against hepatitis B virus is required. Qualification for the procedure and determining the scope of surgical intervention are very important.

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and lasts—from 1.5 to 4 hours—depending on the chosen technique and scope of the procedure. The plastic surgeon selects the most appropriate technique and scope for the individual case.

After the procedure

Rhinoplasty is an intervention on our body. After it, the body needs to regain strength. During the procedure, slight swelling and bruising may occur around the eyes and cheeks. Bruising around the eyes disappears after about 10 days. Nosebleeds may also occur. This is normal and requires time for tissue regeneration. Pain may appear, which can be relieved with painkillers.

The time needed for the nose shape to normalize is about twelve months. Some changes are visible immediately, while others require waiting.

After the procedure, it is necessary to follow the doctor\’s recommendations. In the initial period, the patient should avoid smiling too much, refrain from blowing the nose, avoid irritating the skin of the nose, and for about a month, not wear glasses. As with any surgery, one should take care of oneself, avoid excessive physical activity, especially sports that could expose the operated nose to injuries and trauma.

It\’s not always about the nose….

Many people see their noses as too large, for example, when smiling. However, after a thorough analysis by an aesthetic medicine doctor, it may turn out that the problem is not the nose but the chin. A chin that is too small relative to the proportions of the face. Sometimes, when smiling, the chin recedes, the cheekbones lift, and the nose visually appears larger, although in reality, it has a nice shape and proportions.

As mentioned earlier, the brain sees proportions. When they are disturbed, it seems that something is wrong. During smiling or dynamic facial expressions, the proportions of the face visually change.

Micrognathia may be the problem in this case, and it is worth considering chin correction rather than the nose. Micrognathia is a typical Slavic condition, meaning a receding jaw.
