Gynecomastia surgery after weight loss

Gynecomastia surgery after significant weight loss – the path to regaining self-confidence!

Reaching your ideal weight is pleasing on one hand, as it improves overall well-being and body function. However, on the other hand, it can lead to certain side effects, including gynecomastia. This is a common condition for men who lose a large amount of weight. It is important to know that there are effective ways to address this issue and simultaneously regain self-confidence. What exactly is this about? You will find out in the article below!

What is gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia is a condition characterized by the enlargement of the breast gland. It manifests as an increase in the size of the nipple and can affect one or both breasts. Very often, with this condition, the nipples are swollen and painful symptoms occur. Gynecomastia can occur in men of all ages. Enlargement of the breast glands is observed equally in boys during puberty as well as in mature men and seniors. It is a problem affecting nearly half of the male population, although it may present to varying degrees. Importantly, gynecomastia is not a cancerous change and can be managed.

What are the causes of gynecomastia?

Many different factors can lead to the development of gynecomastia. Depending on the cause, we distinguish physiological or pathological gynecomastia.

Physiological gynecomastia mainly concerns boys during puberty and is related to hormonal changes occurring in their bodies. However, physiological gynecomastia is also very characteristic for newborns and mature men (usually after the age of 50).

Pathological gynecomastia may be caused by various diseases (for example, chronic kidney failure) or hormonal disorders. There are also cases where pathological gynecomastia results from taking certain medications (for example, drugs for hypertension, infertility medications) or anabolic steroids. However, the most common cause of pathological gynecomastia is excessive body weight. Obesity is a lifestyle disease that negatively affects the functioning of the entire body, including hormonal balance. Fat tissue leads to increased aromatase activity. This enzyme causes the conversion of testosterone into estradiol, which in turn results in enlargement of the breast gland in men.

How is gynecomastia treated?

Gynecomastia treatment is always tailored individually to the patient. In the case of physiological gynecomastia, there is usually no need to implement special therapies, as it resolves spontaneously over time. For pathological gynecomastia, the underlying cause must be identified. If it is due to serious diseases, a specialist will treat those conditions. If gynecomastia is caused by obesity, appearance can be improved and the embarrassing problem reduced by changing eating habits and returning to an optimal body weight. Therefore, introducing a healthy and balanced diet is recommended. It should be largely based on vegetables and fruits, rather than fast food and highly processed products. Additionally, physical activity and pharmacological treatment involving drugs that inhibit estrogen (female hormone) production are advised. However, it should be noted that after significant weight loss, such measures are often insufficient. In such cases, the only way to combat gynecomastia is surgical intervention. This is especially recommended for young boys, as gynecomastia can cause complexes and low self-esteem. Nevertheless, even adult men often have difficulties building new relationships. Therefore, it is worth learning more about gynecomastia surgery.

Where to have gynecomastia removal surgery after significant weight loss?

Gynecomastia procedures are quite popular. Therefore, they appear in the offerings of various medical offices and clinics. However, this does not mean you can choose a random facility. It is important to remember that each may provide a completely different quality of medical services and impose varied prices. To avoid excessive costs and disappointment, it is better to focus immediately on professional clinics. Wilmed can certainly be considered one of them. Here, a team of experienced specialists is available. They possess extensive knowledge, appropriate skills, and modern equipment. Moreover, they offer an individual approach to the patient and reasonable pricing.

What does gynecomastia removal surgery after significant weight loss involve?

In a professional clinic, such procedures are performed using modern techniques and methods under general anesthesia. The surgery involves the removal of excess glandular and fatty tissue. This is done through a small incision in the lower part of the areola. Liposuction is often used as an adjunct procedure. A clear advantage of using modern methods is that the patient can return home a few hours after the surgery. Usually, the clinic stay is limited to 6-8 hours post-operation. Afterwards, it is sufficient to come for suture removal and follow-up visits.
