Non-invasive varicose vein treatment at Wilmed clinic
According to WHO data, varicose veins may affect up to 30% of the population over 50 years of age, although nowadays they are diagnosed even in people in their 30s. Contrary to stereotypical opinions, varicose veins are not merely an aesthetic problem – their presence suggests circulatory system disorders, so they must be treated. Patients at the Wilmed clinic can benefit from many safe, minimally invasive, and effective varicose vein treatments, such as sclerotherapy and Flebogrif.
Varicose veins are defined as thick, unsightly veins visible under the skin surface, colored red, navy blue, sometimes even black. Many people believe varicose veins are only a cosmetic defect – indeed, small dilated veins, commonly called “spider veins,” can still be considered an aesthetic defect, but if they develop, enlarge, become thick and dark – we are dealing with varicose veins, which are a symptom of circulatory system problems and must be treated. Lack of therapy can result in very serious health complications, even life-threatening.
What factors contribute to the occurrence of varicose veins? There are many. Women suffer from them more often than men. Their occurrence is favored by genetic predispositions, sedentary and standing lifestyles, overweight and obesity, wearing tight underwear and clothing, improper diet, insufficient physical activity, and even pregnancy. Fortunately, at the Wilmed clinic, patients can benefit from modern and effective varicose vein treatment methods.
Sclerotherapy at the Wilmed Clinic
Sclerotherapy is a modern, minimally invasive, and safe method of treating vein diseases at various stages of advancement – from small “spider veins” to thick, visible varicose veins. Under ultrasound guidance, our phlebology specialists inject a special pharmacological agent (in liquid or foam form) into the affected vein using a thin needle, which leads to the closure of the insufficient vessel and the disappearance of the varicose vein.
What distinguishes sclerotherapy? As mentioned, it is a minimally invasive procedure – it does not require skin incisions, hospital stay, or long recovery. It is usually performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia, making it suitable also for elderly patients for whom general anesthesia is not recommended. Immediately after the procedure, patients can return home, of course following our doctors’ recommendations, including wearing special compression stockings for a specified period.
What is Flebogrif?
At the Wilmed clinic, we also treat varicose veins using one of the most advanced currently available methods – using the specialized Flebogrif catheter. This procedure is also performed under ultrasound guidance and local anesthesia, without surgical incisions, and therefore without long recovery, scars, or bruises. The Flebogrif catheter not only delivers a chemical agent into the vein lumen that causes morphological changes but also mechanically damages its inner layers, causing the insufficient vein to close and become invisible. The procedure, performed by our experienced doctors, lasts about 30 minutes, and immediately after its completion, patients can return to normal activities. Compression stockings should be worn for about a month.
