Check your skin condition before summer!
Each of us eagerly awaits warm, sunny days – we dream of putting away thick sweaters and jackets, enjoying the sun’s rays warming our bodies. However, before heading out for walks and spring-summer trips, it is worth thoroughly checking your skin condition and consulting a doctor about any changes present on it.
First, let us reassure you – not every skin change necessarily means the worst, such as cancer. Although melanoma is a very dangerous disease with a high mortality rate (mainly due to late diagnoses), many other skin changes are non-cancerous. Therefore, it is important to visit a dermatologist or a surgeon specializing in skin lesion assessment and removal at least once a year. They will carefully examine the skin, order any additional tests if needed, or suggest removing lesions. Many of these are simply cosmetic defects that can be easily removed.
What types of skin changes may occur?
The most common, relatively harmless skin changes include:
- warts – these can be flat warts caused by a virus, appearing on the face and hands as small, light, flat bumps, as well as seborrheic keratoses, usually occurring in adults on the back and neck, dark in color with a rough surface,
- fibromas – nodules appearing on the head, face, limbs, and torso, skin-colored or slightly brownish, with a tendency to keratinize, causing no discomfort but may tear, e.g., when dressing,
- hemangiomas – usually appearing on the face of women during pregnancy and postpartum, consisting of a small red bump with radiating capillaries, which may pulsate and fade when pressed, not painful or itchy.
Electrocoagulation – a method for removing skin lesions
A quick, safe, and effective method for removing unsightly skin lesions is electrocoagulation, performed by specialists at Wilmed medical clinic. It involves applying a very high-frequency electric current to the lesion. The tissue forming the lesion is cut off and destroyed by the high temperature. A small scab forms at the site, which falls off naturally after a few days.
Depending on the number of lesions removed, electrocoagulation lasts from a few to several minutes. The procedure is practically painless and does not require anesthesia, although people with high pain sensitivity may feel discomfort. In such cases, a mild anesthetic cream can be used.
Electrocoagulation at Wilmed medical clinic always requires prior consultation with a doctor. These consultations help exclude potential contraindications to the procedure, such as pregnancy and breastfeeding, poor general health, blood clotting disorders, or the presence of a pacemaker.
After electrocoagulation, it is also important to follow the doctor’s recommendations. Immediately after the procedure, slight redness or swelling may appear around the removed lesion, but these symptoms subside quickly. The scab left by the lesion falls off on its own after several to a dozen days, leaving no scars. Scars appear only if patients remove the scab prematurely, intentionally or accidentally. Until full healing, it is better not to apply cosmetics to the area and to protect it from the sun.
Especially for patients who want to prepare their skin for the upcoming summer, we have prepared a promotional offer – now removal of 3 skin lesions by electrocoagulation at Wilmed medical clinic costs only 250 PLN. Additionally, any histopathological examination of removed samples costs only 70 PLN instead of 100 PLN per sample. We invite you to consultations with our specialists!
