Check your skin condition after the holidays!
Almost everyone has moles, birthmarks, or warts on their skin – mostly harmless. Unfortunately, in some people, exposure of the skin to solar radiation, especially during summer, can cause these to transform into precancerous or cancerous lesions. Therefore, after the holidays, it is worth visiting the Wilmed clinic, where we perform videodermatoscopic examination – a comprehensive computer analysis of skin lesion conditions.
Skin lesions can take various forms. Moles are flat or slightly raised spots appearing all over the body, resulting from the activity of cells responsible for producing skin pigments, called melanocytes. They vary in size and shape and can be red, brown, or black. Another type of skin lesion is warts, small raised growths appearing on the skin due to infections with HPV viruses. Generally, these lesions are not dangerous to health – they represent only a cosmetic defect, although if located in sensitive body areas, they may be irritated by clothing or underwear.
Skin lesions do not like the sun
As mentioned earlier, for most people, skin lesions are a cosmetic issue, but it is important to be aware that under certain factors, they can transform into precancerous or cancerous lesions. One such factor is sun exposure, which mainly occurs during summer. Therefore, during holidays, before going out in the sun, it is essential to apply sunscreen (preferably SPF 30 or 50) and monitor the condition of skin lesions: whether they enlarge, change shape or color, itch, bleed, etc. Special attention should be paid by people with very fair skin, light eyes, and blonde hair, as well as those with a family history of skin cancer.
Videodermatoscopy at the Wilmed clinic – modern technology serving health
After returning from summer trips, it is worth undergoing a videodermatoscopic examination at the Wilmed clinic – a non-invasive, safe, and very modern method for comprehensive assessment of all skin lesions present on a patient’s body. Unlike traditional dermatoscopy, the skin surface is examined by computer, and the results are digitally documented. This allows not only a detailed inspection of all skin lesions and detection of any abnormalities but also comparison with previous results stored in the patient’s records.
Importantly, at the Wilmed clinic, patients undergoing videodermatoscopy are comprehensively cared for by surgical specialists who handle both assessment and removal of skin lesions. This means that if any lesion is qualified for removal (for health or aesthetic reasons), our surgeons will propose the best method. Lesions can be removed by electrocoagulation or traditional surgical excision, allowing samples to be sent for histopathological examination. Our surgeons perform procedures following plastic surgery principles – this ensures faster wound healing and virtually invisible scars.
We invite everyone interested in comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of skin lesions to contact us. We provide care from experienced doctors and a friendly, warm atmosphere!
