Diagnostics and removal of breast lesions at Wilmed clinic
Discovering a breast lesion is naturally a very difficult moment in a patient’s life, but it does not mean a verdict! At Wilmed clinic, we offer women modern diagnostic methods and breast tumor removal, performed by our experienced specialists.
The first step in breast disease prevention and diagnosis – especially at early stages – is breast ultrasound. All women over 30 should have this at least once a year, especially since it is painless, safe, and non-invasive. At Wilmed clinic, breast ultrasounds are performed by doctors specializing in breast disease diagnosis and treatment, capable of detecting nodules as small as 2-3 mm. If necessary, they immediately order further tests, which shortens the time needed for a definitive diagnosis.
Diagnostic biopsies at Wilmed clinic
If an abnormality is detected during ultrasound, the next step is a biopsy, which involves taking a fragment or the entire nodule and sending the tissue for histopathological examination. At Wilmed clinic, we perform, among others, core needle biopsy – a procedure involving the removal of a tissue fragment forming the lesion using a special needle. The doctor makes a puncture and collects several tissue samples, which are then sent for histopathological analysis.
However, the recommended method in many cases is the modern vacuum-assisted mammotome biopsy, a core needle biopsy supported by vacuum. Using a mammotome device that creates a vacuum and a special 3 mm diameter needle with a rotating mechanism, the doctor can not only take a tissue sample for examination but even remove the entire lesion. Importantly, mammotome biopsy is performed under ultrasound guidance – our specialists continuously monitor the lesion on the screen, allowing precise needle placement.
Surgical removal of breast lesions
It should be understood that not every breast lesion is cancerous – patients are also diagnosed with fibroadenomas, fibromas, or cysts. When indicated, Wilmed clinic surgically removes such lesions. Surgical treatment is also indicated for lesions too large to be removed by mammotome biopsy, rapidly growing lesions, or those causing breast asymmetry. Procedures are performed by experienced, highly qualified breast surgery specialists – each operation is conducted to minimize impact on breast aesthetics. If necessary, our doctors also perform breast reconstruction surgeries, both immediate and delayed, depending on the patient’s health condition.
Breast cancer treatment
At Wilmed clinic, we also provide surgical treatment for breast cancer – this disease affects virtually all women over 25, with the highest risk increase after age 45. Unfortunately, in Poland, the vast majority of breast cancer cases are detected too late for surgical treatment, which is the most effective. When possible, the surgeon removes only the tumor, achieving better aesthetic results. Most often, however, radical mastectomy (breast removal) is performed, sometimes with lymph node and chest muscle removal. Chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and hormonal therapy are used as complementary treatments or for cases detected too late.
We invite all women interested in breast disease prevention, diagnostics, and lesion removal, including cancerous ones, to Wilmed clinic! We provide care from experienced specialists and access to modern diagnostic and therapeutic methods. Please contact us -> https://en.wilmed.pl/contact/.
