Minimally invasive spine surgeries at Wilmed clinic
Excellent news for patients struggling with osteoporosis, hemangiomas, or cancer metastases – our Wilmed clinic in Warsaw now offers modern, minimally invasive spine surgeries – vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, and vertebral stentoplasty, performed by dr. hab. n. med. Wojciech Glinkowski.
Until recently, spine surgeries – necessary, for example, for patients with osteoporotic compression fractures of vertebral bodies, hemangiomas, or cancer metastases – were performed using traditional surgical methods. They involved a fairly high risk of complications, postoperative discomfort, and prolonged recovery.
Thanks to advances in modern medicine, innovative, minimally invasive spine surgeries with high effectiveness have become available – they eliminate pain symptoms, prevent the progression of spinal deformities, and at the same time, patients regain mobility and return to normal daily activities within a few hours. These procedures are now also available to patients at our Wilmed clinic in Warsaw!
Vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty, stentoplasty – what you need to know?
Depending on the individual health condition and indications, at Wilmed clinic we perform:
- vertebroplasty – filling the interior of a fractured vertebra with so-called bone cement or another material,
- kyphoplasty – repositioning the vertebra by inflating balloons inside it, followed by filling it with cement,
- stentoplasty – repositioning the vertebra by inflating balloons inside it with simultaneous placement of an implant, followed by filling with cement.
Vertebroplasty is performed under local anesthesia under X-ray guidance and does not require skin incisions – bone cement is introduced into the vertebra using a thin needle. Kyphoplasty and stentoplasty last about an hour, providing immediate reduction or complete elimination of pain symptoms. After a few hours lying down, the patient can return home.
