Better to prevent than to treat!

April 7 is traditionally celebrated as World Health Day. It is an excellent opportunity to take care of your health and undergo basic preventive examinations – after all, it is better to prevent than to treat! At the Wilmed Medical Clinic, we invite all women for preventive screenings including breast, cervical, and skin cancer.

Breast cancer is a disease that kills about 13,000 Polish women each year and is the most common cause of death among women under 65. These alarming statistics could be reversed, as breast cancers detected at an early stage are easier to treat, and a quick diagnosis significantly increases the chances of survival. That is why preventive breast cancer screenings are so important. At the Wilmed Medical Clinic, we offer our patients breast ultrasonography (USG) and diagnostic biopsies. USG is a completely painless and safe examination – it should be performed every six months regardless of age. If any concerning changes are detected, specialists at Wilmed Clinic refer the patient for a biopsy, during which a tissue sample is taken and sent to the laboratory. Preventive breast examinations should therefore become a permanent part of every woman’s health check calendar.

Cervical Cancer Prevention

Another disease that claims far too many lives in our country is cervical cancer. In 2012, approximately 2,700 new cases and nearly 1,600 deaths caused by this condition were diagnosed in Poland. Unfortunately, compared to other European countries, the mortality rate here is very high. One reason for this may be that cervical cancer in its early stages does not produce any characteristic symptoms or cause pain. Many women therefore believe there is no need to visit a gynecologist. However, every woman should see a gynecologist at least once a year. In addition to the standard gynecological examination, the doctor will suggest performing a pelvic ultrasound and a Pap smear.

Take Care of Your Skin!

Preventive examinations should also not overlook the sometimes neglected area of health – the skin. One of the most advanced methods for diagnosing and monitoring skin changes is videodermatoscopy performed at the Wilmed Medical Clinic – an examination conducted using a special device that precisely evaluates a lesion, then performs computer analysis and documentation. Videodermatoscopy allows for quick and accurate diagnosis of various types of moles, monitoring changes occurring in them, and reducing the number of excisions only to those lesions that could potentially develop into cancer.
