Effective and safe treatment of postoperative hernias
Postoperative hernia – as the name suggests – is a complication following previous surgeries within the abdominal cavity. Fortunately, effective methods of treating postoperative hernias exist – at Wilmed clinic, hernia removal procedures are performed on a one-day basis. Importantly, thanks to adherence to exceptionally strict safety protocols, we are able to assist patients even during the challenging times of the coronavirus pandemic.
A hernia is a fairly common issue, occurring in both women and men of various ages. This term describes a condition in which internal organs protrude through an opening in the body’s walls, creating a characteristic subcutaneous bulge. The direct cause of hernia formation is a disruption in the production of collagen fibers, which are responsible for the tightness and elasticity of body tissues, or an abnormal structure of the body’s walls. There are many factors that increase the risk of hernia occurrence – these may include pregnancy, overweight and obesity, and even very heavy physical labor.
Postoperative hernia – a complication after surgical procedures
Several types of hernias are distinguished, among others based on their location – these include abdominal, femoral, umbilical, or inguinal hernias. When a hernia appears after a previously performed surgical procedure, it is referred to as a postoperative hernia. In this case, internal organs protrude through an opening formed at the site of the postoperative scar, where the tissues are weaker.
Like other hernias, a postoperative hernia may cause symptoms such as pain, a pulling sensation, and a palpable lump. While diagnosing a hernia usually does not pose difficulties, few people know that it requires immediate treatment. Failure to act appropriately can result in serious health complications, even life-threatening.
Treatment of postoperative hernia at Wilmed clinic
The only effective treatment for a postoperative hernia is another surgical procedure, which in many cases involves placing a special mesh at the site of the abdominal wall defect to reinforce the tissues and keep the organs in place. Due to difficulties related to long waiting times for such operations in hospitals, and often the inability to find a hospital bed for this procedure, Wilmed clinic offers patients the possibility of rapid postoperative hernia treatment. After surgery, the patient can walk immediately and usually stays at the clinic for about 12 hours, after which they return home to full recovery. During this time, the patient remains in constant contact with the operating physician. Follow-up visits are also necessary, and their cost is included in the procedure price.
In the case of a postoperative hernia, treatment cannot be delayed. At Wilmed clinic, we have implemented exceptionally strict safety rules – both for our staff and patients. All this to minimize the risk of coronavirus infection while continuing to provide on-site services, perform planned surgeries, and assist all those in need!
